It’s All In The Editing

Read Well, Self Improvement, Think Well, Write

Summer reading for school gets finished the day before. My son just finished his writing after reading Lord of the Rings

All summer his day began after 10AM (not every day, but most days). Today, he was up at 5:30AM reading and writing. After editing every sentence at least 5 times, he is done!

Every task involves editing. Life is one BIG edit. It is Labor Day; no more work.

First day of school reinforces what it means to edit, to refine, to clarify. My children continue their academic work in 7th, 10th, and 16th (Senior at college) year. The first day seems unnerving; in a few weeks, they will write, rewrite, annotate, and edit.

Blogs let us do some Kerouac stream of consciousness expression on specific subjects. A journal/blog provides a place for thinking. Editing gets attention during spontaneous expression. Words are the wagons or burden bearers of laughter, hope, disappointment, and expectaion (just a few of the feelings words express). Our job with language involves refining our thoughts for ourselves and the reader. This is the reason, in my mind, that writing requires editing. Editing reveals character, and the whole process makes us more than we were when the sentence started; it is our sacrifice of self-improvement that may benefit others. Life is one BIG edit.

Happy is Not Spelled M-O-N-E-Y

Making Money, Self Improvement

Late night television must be a cheaper medium for advertisers. Late night commercials make promises prime time TV watchers would reject. “I built an empire parttime.” “We were thousands of dollars in debt. After following the instructions of ‘Youcanhaveit all.com, we have a net worth of more than $200,000.” “We are happier than we have ever been.”

So, do you think they are telling the truth?
