Goal Setting : Who Got Kicked Off American Idol This Week

Yes, I love American Idol also. The singers, the great songs, the people. And it's truly amazing that so many people have had their careers in the singing world launched because of the show. It's not just Kelly Clarkson, the first American Idol.
Even people who simply make the finalists, like Katharine McPhee have been able to parlay their stint on the show into a major career. So when you next ask, "who got kicked off American Idol this week," you might consider the following people who got kicked off and were still able to make a name for themselves:
Taylor Hicks, the winner in 2006 was supposed to be a superstar right out of the gate since he was after all, an American Idol. Instead, Hicks' debut disc stalled - it was at a whopping 184th place for the first half of 2007. first half. By 2008, Hicks' career was on a definite downward trajectory.
Arista records, who had signed him to his first contract dropped him. His memoir, for which he was paid $750,000 didn't do much. Of course, he did come back from that disappointment and by 2009 he was back on the American Idol stage, now singing songs from his latest album, produced independently and climbing in the charts.
And what about his co-finalists in that competition, Katherine McPhee and Elliot Yamin, who were announced as those who "got kicked off American Idol this week," (or at least didn't get to be American Idols anyway).
Let's look at McPhee, who actually started a bit of a slang term, McPheever when she kissed the judges on American Idol after she became one of the three finalists in the 2006 season.
She went on to release her own album, Katherine McPhee, which debuted at the #2 spot on the Billboard top 200. Not too shabby for also ran, eh? She is supposed to be releasing her latest album, "Unbroken" in January, 2010. (It was delayed from an October, 2009 launch due to scheduling conflicts.)
As for fellow finalist and another "who was kicked off American Idol this week" answer, Elliot Yamin, he landed a contract with Sony/ATV music publishing and released his album, Elliot Yamin, in 2007, hitting #3 on the Billboard charts. His second album, Fight for Love was just recently released as well and has certainly shown some promise too. |
