Do you find yourself going to the gym nearly every day but you are still not getting the results you desire? Do you spend countless hours lifting weight in an attempt to gain muscle but your body is not changing as quickly as you would like?
Here are a few things you may want to consider the next time you go to the gym.
Are you stuck in a rut?
One of the major mistakes people make when trying to gain muscle and lose fat is that they stick to the same exercises week in and week out. Generally after 4-6 weeks your body will have adjusted and will be starving for something new. To gain muscle, aim to make incremental increases to your weight loads, try new exercises, shorten rest periods, change from barbells to dumbbells, incorporate supersets anything to keep your body guessing and improving. Try cycling your workouts for better overall results, alternating between phases when you focus on strength, mass and leaning out.
Are you lifting enough weight?
Many people are unwilling to move out of their comfort zone to challenge themselves. But consider this, when you lift more, you burn more. Add 5%-10% more weight to your lifts and perform reps in the 6-8 rep range to shock your metabolism. This simple change can help burn up to 600 more calories in the two days after a workout helping you to burn fat and gain muscle.
Are you getting enough rest?
The body needs rest in order to repair itself, and this is where the real gains occur. Get at least 8 hours of sleep per night to allow your body to recover and gain muscle, which increases your overall calorie burning potential. Also, allow a few days before working the same muscle group again. This prevents overtraining which can halt progress and can strip your body of muscle. Without time off from the gym your body will not be able to transport vital nutrients to the muscles and you will not have the fuel necessary to be at your best and your results will suffer. You will not obtain the best results if you go to the gym every day.
Sometimes you have too much information and too many choices but weight training to gain muscle is not as complicated as you may think. To Gain muscle is simply the result of the right attitude, good training, good nutrition and hard work. |
