While you have probably heard about tankless hot water heaters, you may not know a lot about them. If you are considering these types of water heaters in your home, then it's a good idea to find out more information before making a purchase. So here is a look at some of the information you need to know before you make this decision for your own home.
First of all, you may be interested in learning how tankless water heaters actually work. Basically these heaters work by using a special type of tubing that is over a burner, which then heats the water as it goes through. They really work quite simply, and the way they work definitely provides some pros and cons. These heaters don't start heating the water until you turn your faucet on, so it will take a bit longer to get the hot water you need, but on the positive side of things, these water heaters are able to save you on energy costs.
Speaking of energy costs, before buying you'll want to know more about the energy savings that you can get with tankless hot water heaters for your home. Well, water heating happens to be quite a big part of your electric bill in most cases. When you decide to go with tankless water heaters, you can cut back on these costs, since you don't have standby losses to the water as it is held in a tank. Also, traditional hot water heaters have to work on a regular basis to keep the water hot, while tankless options only work when you turn on your water, which is another way that you can save on energy.
There are a couple of choices when you are considering a tankless water heater for your home. One option is to go with point of use options, which are put right near the fixture, which means you won't lose the temperature of the water as they go through the pipes. However, they only work for one fixture. Another option is to go with tankless heaters for the whole house. The problem is that whole house options are more expensive and you lose some of the water heat as water is going through the pipes. Usually the point of use options are more efficient and even cheaper to use.
These tankless water heaters can be a good home option, but you need to weigh the pros and cons carefully. Consider your home needs, the costs, and do your research. Then you can decide if these tankless options are the right ones for you. |
