There is some basis in reality to the nickname, "the queen of textiles," given to silk. Silk scarves have had staying power and will continue to in the future. These fashion scarves have been the fashion accessory for royalty and celebrities for years, and this trend is expected to continue.

Silk scarves are popular among those who pay attention to fashion, yet very few of these women reach for silk scarves when dressing on a cold winter day. Well, not a thing could be further from the truth. Silk is usually used when making fashion scarves, what most people don't realize is that silk is a good insulator. The sheen and warmth of silk make them favorite among fashion-conscious as well as common people during winter.

The fine, soft feel of silk feels luxurious next to one's body. Because it is such a fluid material, silk scarves actually follow the contour of every surface they come into contact with. This enables them to drape attractively alone or in addition to your coat.

The durability of silk is another reason why silk scarves are so effective in the winter. Though silk is considered to be one of the strongest materials, it does weaken when it gets wet. The outside layer of silk is also a shielding layer, which makes it easy to keep it clean. When properly cared for fashion scarves can last a very long time.

One of the top concerns during the winter months is how to beat the cold, and silk scarves certainly help with this. Silk is far more insulating than most people think. Silk is a very comfortable fabric to wear, since it is moisture-absorbing. It moves moisture away from your body and helps you remain cool in the warmer months. In the winter, it has the opposite effect. Silk is an insulating fabric as it obsorbs and maintains heat from the body.

Consisting entirely of protein fibers, silk is an all natural material spun by silkworms. Unlike other materials that are itchy or irritating, silk scarves are naturally hypoallergenic. So, you will look great, but not only that... you will feel great too. You will be envy of everyone else in the winter with the sheen that silk has.

Not all fashion scarves are equally beautiful. Any type of silk scarf is a great accessory for any season of the year. You may not have been considering buying a silk scarf for winter but you very well may change your mind. Silk is a classy addition to a winter wardrobe and also provides a less bulky alternative to the usual wool scarf. You can wear your scarf to keep warm when outside and then use it to complement your outfit when you take off your coat. Remember, these scarves are so versatile you can wear them not only around your neck but also as a belt, as a hair band, or even around your shoulders.
