Many of us have more belongings than we actually need around us; from childhood toys to boxes from computer parts. We don't want to sell them or throw them away because they may be useful later on or they have sentimental value, but by the same token if it's not being used or isn't likely to be in the immediate future, it could be causing needless clutter in your home. Putting these items into storage is an excellent solution to this dilemma.

Self storage is big business in modern Britain, especially with many of us needing to downsize our homes and not wanting to part with many of our possessions when we do so, renting a unit to store them in is the ideal solution - it will be far cheaper than the mortgage on a home large enough to hold all of your belongings, but means that you don't need to sell or dispose of items that you're not going to be using every day.

There is often a storage provider in most areas, sometimes from large chains, sometimes independent. If you are likely to be moving around and want to keep your possessions nearby, it is recommended to go with one of the national chains as they will often allow you to transfer your stored items between locales without the hassle of starting a new contract the way you would if you switched between independents.

Most providers will offer a variety of sizes for your belongings, from a locker to a room big enough to comfortably play a game of five a side football in ensuring that however many possessions you need to store, an option will be available to fulfil it. It's often better to hire a slightly larger area than you need, purely so that you have enough space to move around in your unit and have room for anything extra that you wish to store.

Storage units will often cost far less than you expect and are excellent for a variety of applications, be they short or long term. For example, some people like to store their possessions while they move or decorate, and others tend to put almost everything they own away while they work abroad for a year or so and don't want to take the risk of encouraging burglars by leaving their possessions in their homes.

The range of room sizes and options is more than flexible enough for anyone and with the reasonable prices and ease of access to most locations, self storage really is the easiest way to keep your excess possessions safe but out of your way.
