Transitioning into your first home is a very exciting time, but it can be quite stressful as well. Getting the house ready to live in can be a lot of work in itself. After all the cleaning, painting, replacing floors, and other miscellaneous tasks, the last thing you'll want to worry about is the move itself. In years past, most people avoided the hassles by hiring movers to bring their moving boxes and other supplies and do all the work. However, in today's economy many people are deciding to forego traditional movers and do the bulk of the work themselves by purchasing boxes, packing up their own belongings, and renting a truck.
The process of packing and relocating your belongings yourself can be a great money-saver if you have the time and energy to devote to doing it right. Helpful moving kits for all sizes of moves, as well as boxes designed specifically to hold a lot of weight can go a long way towards making your transition a little easier.
Types of Moving Kits For Different Size Moves
Moving kits are a great way to ensure you have all the different-sized boxes, packing supplies, and moving supplies that you'll need. Whether your first home is a small town home in the city or a large four bedroom single-family home in the suburbs, it's easy to find a kit that will suit your needs and fit all of your belongings.
Apartments, condominiums, and homes can greatly differ in size. While you don't want to purchase many more boxes than you need, you also want to be sure that you have enough. The contents of kits are based on the number of rooms you need to relocate, with different sizes of boxes for every purpose. From smaller boxes ideal for books and dishes, to larger wardrobe boxes convenient for hanging your clothes in, moving kits help you pack your belongings properly. These kits also usually come with accessories such as packing tape, air bubble cushioning wrap, and a permanent marker or two to help you properly label each box's contents. These supplies can easily be overlooked in the middle of a complicated move, and are essential to making the process easier. With these accessories, and a wide variety of box sizes, moving kits can make your life and move much simpler!
Select Different Size Moving Boxes
Many people try to save money when relocating by picking up free boxes at the neighborhood grocery store, or by re-using boxes from a friend or colleague. However, this isn't the best idea. Grocery store boxes often have food residue in them and/or aren't completely sturdy. Re-used boxes can be flimsy as well and need to be taped together again. By purchasing sturdy moving boxes built to hold a substantial amount of weight, you can avoid having to re-pack things if your free boxes happen to break.
Discount moving boxes can be purchased in all sizes, for all purposes. Small boxes are perfect for DVDs, CDs, and other small items. They are especially recommended for books, since books can be very heavy when lumped together in a box. Medium-sized boxes are perfect for pots and pans, toys, and office supplies - things that aren't as heavy as books, but aren't too light, either. Lighter items, such as clothes, sheets, and linens, should be put in large moving boxes. Many companies also have wardrobe boxes, which are made of strong cardboard and have a metal rod on the top to easily transfer your clothes on hangers directly to the box. By purchasing a wide variety of sizes of moving boxes, your transition will be a little less tiring.
Tips For Transitioning Into Your First Home
As anyone who's moved a few times knows, the process can be complicated, stressful and time-consuming. If you wait until the last minute to begin packing, you might find yourself just throwing items haphazardly into random boxes. Once you get to your new home, you'll undoubtedly have to spend precious time organizing your things and putting them in the proper rooms.
Instead, try to begin packing boxes with rarely used items a few weeks before you relocate. Place things from the same room into the same box, and clearly label the box with a different colored label for each room. It doesn't matter if you choose red labels for the kitchen and blue for the bedroom or the other way around - as long as you know which color means which room, a quick glance at the label while taking the box into your new home can let you easily deliver the box to the room it needs to go to.
Moving kits come with boxes of all sizes and can make your move a little easier. Consider purchasing proper discount moving boxes to ensure a simpler, safer move! |
