Take a weekend and come to Milan. This is the place to be if you are interested in fashion or culture. If you're feeling worn down by life's routine and want to do something to spice up life a bit, Milan city breaks are just the way to go. Only a short flight or train ride from almost any European city, Milan is a haven of fashion, art, and nightlife.
Far and above anything else, Milan is the place to go if you want to shop. Some of the top designers in the world, such as Prada and Gucci, call Milan home. You can marvel at their exquisite products in their exclusive showrooms.
However, if your wallet can't handle those price tags, there is still plenty of other high fashion, lower priced shops up and down the streets of Milan. Labels ranging from H&M to Dolce & Gabbana can be found all over the city. If you visit the Saturday market along the wharf you have a chance to bargain for design clothes at second hand prices as well as antiques, books, and other handicrafts.
Milan is also famous for its cultural scene. After all, once you've dressed up, you need somewhere to go. Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" can be found in Milan as well as museums full of other works of Renaissance art.
The Pinacoteca di Brera is a Napoleonic building, and a work of art in its own right, that houses many of the world's masterpieces. This includes an especially large collection by Caravaggio.
Walking around Milan will introduce you to architecture ranging from the Gothic to the modern period and everything in between. There are over twelve hundred fountains dotting Milan, most holding court over a small palazzo where locals come to sit in the sun, drink coffee, and watch street performers. Even in the heart of a modern city, Milan still has a lot of local charm.
Don't forget the mountain of delicious Italian food that you can experience when you are visiting Milan. There are many famous pork dishes as well as pastas made from wheat, barley, and even potatoes. The wines of Italy are also famous and there is nothing better than wiling away a Saturday afternoon drinking wine and eating cheese with a new Prada purchase by your side. Milan city breaks are up there with one of the best ways to spend a weekend rekindling the passion for life inside you. |
