In these days of limited time, everybody is trying to save it. Cutting down on the mundane tasks in life is supposed to leave more time for pleasure. In effect, it just leaves more time for more work but the theory is good. Basic chores should be kept efficient and minimised to enable us to make the most of our free time.
It has become the fashion for busy families to employ minimalist decorating ideas in a bid to keep the home looking as nice as possible, as easily as possible and with minimum of maintenance. To this end, ceramic wall tiles are a godsend.
An age old way of decorating the walls of a home, wall tiles have always been a hot favourite. They are practical, hard wearing, easily cleaned and, the longer time goes by, the more unique ways of decorating the tiles themselves to the point now where any image can be digitally imprinted on the wall tiles.
Tiles can be made to resemble plaster or stone or even wallpaper or water. There are myriads of styles and absolutely any colour to choose from. The effect can be changed with a different depth added by changing the surface from either matt to gloss. Glass tiles also have a look of depth that the average ceramic tile doesn't possess.
So, we have a whole selection of wall tiles to choose from that, once fixed to the wall, will give you years of beauty with easy maintenance. Here's how to do it:
When wall tiles are first applied it is a good idea to wipe them over with a mild detergent with warm water and soft cloth. A was film is applied to the back of the tiles to avoid scratches in transit and this can end up on the surface. To ensure they look their best, cleaning off this film will have them sporting a pristine shine.
After this initial clean, the same method is all that is required for general maintenance on a regular basis. Usually, the only problem with wall tiles over a longer period of time is the discolouration of the grout. This is easily solved by either boosting the grout with a grout rejuvenator which basically looks like a paint that is applied to grout or re-grouting.
The old grout can be gently removed, taking care not to scratch the surface of the tile, and then fresh grout can be applied. This can bring a whole new lease of life to your tiled wall.
When tiles are looking tired or you want a change of style, then there are two choices. You can either tile over what is already there, which will be easier and quicker with less making good of surfaces to do, or you can start again. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Removing old tiles will have the drawback of possibly damaging surfaces underneath. This will need to be made good and evened up before you can begin again. It is also possible that removal can damage nearby surfaces such as baths and sinks. That said, once done and prepared, this will give up a completely smooth surface.
Tiling over old tiles can be restricted by the weight a wall can hold safely. It can also be difficult to disguise this around the edges. However, done well this is a quick and easy solution to tired wall tiles.
Whichever method you choose to replace or rejuvenate your wall tiles, there is no denying that they are easily looked after and will look great for years. |
