Eating healthy in today's society seems to be getting more and more difficult. There are ample opportunities to eat out or to buy quick easy premade foods at the store.

The fact of the matter is if you are overweight you are putting unnecessary stresses on your body. Your joints are built to support your body at a healthy weight.

This does not mean that we all have to be stick thin in order for our joints to work properly. We all just need to be within a healthy range of weight.

If you are overweight and you need to lose weight, there are a few simple changes you can make in your life to begin to be more fit. These changes should not be extremely hard but will help you drastically.

When you are eating out, it is important that you choose healthy items on the menu. Familiarizing yourself with the menu before you sit down at the restaurant is always a good idea.

You should start to look for the nutritional facts and the ingredients in the food you are eating. Ask your waitress for a list of nutritional facts so you can make an educated decision.

When you are looking at the different items on the menu you will want to find an item that is low in fat and high in protein. The protein is going to help build your muscles.

You do not want to completely eradicate carbohydrates and fats from your diet, you will need these to sustain yourself. Eating a well balanced meal and keeping balance between meals is crucial if you are trying to lose weight.

If it is at all possible, you should try to cook for yourself. Cooking for yourself as many times as possible will help you realize what is going into your food.

If you feel that you are not a good cook, enroll yourself in a cooking class. Not only will you get the opportunity to learn how to cook, but you will also be meeting people and familiarizing yourself with many different types of foods.

You also want to eat consistently throughout the day. Instead of starving yourself all day and then splurging on a large fattening meal at night you should eat small healthy meals throughout the day.

Eating five times a day is okay as long as you are eating healthy foods. Make sure that you are not eating in front of the T.V., computer or in your car.

If you eat while you are distracted you run the risk of overeating. It has been proven that if you are not concentrating on your food you may eat mindlessly.

After you have changed your dieting habits, you will want to start changing your exercising habits. If you do not have any exercising routines, start small.

If you can park at the back of the parking lot and walk briskly to work, take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk to lunch instead of driving you will be burning more calories than you did before.

Look for ways throughout the day to be more active. You do not have to start by running marathons but instead just walk.

Some people have even found it beneficial to stand up during the commercial breaks of their favorite shows to march in place. This gets you up off the couch and gets your muscles working and blood pumping through your body.

The stronger that your muscles are the less pressure you will have on your heart. Your heart will not have to pump as much blood because your muscles will be equipped to handle the blood.

Muscles are also more efficient at taking up oxygen from the blood. If they can optimize their functions your heart will be in much better condition.

By exercising your muscles you will take a lot of pressure off of your joints. If you do not choose to change your habits and the pressure on your joints increases or is consistently too much for a long period of time you may do permanent damage to these joints.

If you are experiencing severe pain in your back, neck, wrists, hips, knees or ankles it may be a result of your weight. Consult with a professional as to what you should do to relieve the pain.

The doctor will be able to identify the problem inside of your body and then tell you what the best remedies are. Following the doctor's orders is a crucial step to feeling healthy again.
