Outdoors : Hot Air Ballooning Over London - The Only Way To See The City

It's easy to get caught up in only seeing London from the ground level - we spend most of the day at that level or looking out at the tall office buildings from inside another tall office building; it's very easy to miss the real spectacle of the city. Some friends and I recently went hot air ballooning over London and it completely shifted my perspective.
One of my friends was turning 30 and our group was struggling to decide what to do for her; she didn't want a big party, just a few friends in the local pub which limited our ideas somewhat, until one day while I was at work I idly wondered what my office block had on its roof and the seed was sown. I mentioned the idea of flying her over the city in a helicopter to one of my friends and he thought it was a great idea, but a bit later I was having doubts. I've been in a helicopter before and they're loud, cramped and can make people feel a little sick, but I still thought she'd really love to see the city from the air, so I looked into other ways of providing it.
After a quick brainstorming session, we came up with the idea of taking her hot air ballooning above London - it meant we could take in the sights of the city from the air, but without the noise or lack of space; it was the perfect solution. A quick look on the internet and we found a provider with a takeoff point not too far from where she lives, and it was reasonably priced as well. The prices were so good, we decided to hire a large basket and go up with her.
There really is nothing like hot air ballooning over London; it's easy to get caught up in the mindset that everything there is dirty, smelly and overcrowded, with legions of faceless people looking to pick your pocket the minute you take your mind off your wallet, but seeing it from the air really helps see the scale of it all. It really is a sight to behold. Seeing the buildings and streets from above and being able to see how far the city stretches really is breathtaking and I went back to work a couple of days later with a renewed love for the city.
My friend thoroughly enjoyed her flight over the city and has recommended hot air ballooning over London to several of her friends approaching their birthdays or wedding anniversaries - it really does help you see the city in a different light and to do so in a relaxing manner. |
