Wolf River can be found in Memphis Tennessee. Even though it's considered a small stream compared too many of the other rivers, it's very famous. The Wolf River gets lots of attention each year when the temperature begins to rise and the walleye start running.

This is an exciting time that anglers look forward to annually. They travel from all over the globe to take part in the great Wolf River walleye run. The run begins when the walleye start swimming under the Winneconne Bridge, which is located in the Wolf River Resorts, in search of a place to start spawning.

Once the word gets out that the walleye are on their way, the anglers begin to pour in. During this time of year the walleye are hungry and they tend to be very aggressive. That's all the qualities anglers love about this species. It was most likely given the nickname walleye run due to the fact that they must travel this same path each year on their way to find a suitable place to spawn and back again after the spawning season ends.

Five Great Tips for Catching Walleye on Wolf River

Fishing for walleye on Wolf River during the spring run is usually fairly easy but there are still a few things you can do to make your experience more productive. Below are five great tips that can help you enjoy a successful fishing trip.

Get an early start so you can find a good location and set up. Even though the walleye feed aggressively during this time of year, the late evening or early morning hours still seems to be the best time to go fishing. Night fishing and cloudy overcast days are usually always productive as well.

When choosing your bait you have several options. Live bait is always a good choice, especially if you're seeking out a trophy fish. However, jigs, spinnerbaits and crankbaits also work very well for attracting the walleye.

Keep a variety of baits with you at all times so you can switch off and use something different if one thing is not yielding the results you're after. You can even use a combination of live baits and artificial baits if you prefer.

Work on your presentation. The walleye can be very aggressive and tend to strike at just about anything, but they won't strike at bait that is acting unnaturally. Whether you use live bait or artificial lures, your presentation is the key to reeling in a nice catch of walleye during the Wolf River run.
