Children : Creative Baby Shower Games For Your New Born

Playing with your newborn while you delicately hold him/her and give him/her a bath can be a toughie. It is nerve racking enough when you find it hard to hold the slippery, soapy baby in your hands without losing your grip and yet not over squeezing him/her.

As a mom you need to remember that a little fun on the way can ease a lot of tension for both you and your baby. If you are tense it will automatically show and feel in the way you hold him/her. Instead of the bath time being soothing, it might end in a flow of tears and howling.

There is information available online on how to swaddle him/her, feed him/her, rock him/her to sleep, and change his/her diapers. But when it comes to simply playing with him/her, you are at your wits end. Worry not. You don't need fancy play things or to wrack your brains for anything extremely creative to hold your newborn's attention.

Remember, for your baby, the outside world is like an 'Alice in wonderland' experience. Everything is new and alive and full of possibilities. Here are some simple tips to keep you kid entertained and to turn the bath into a fun and educative time.

Connect to remember

Babies up to three months old aren't mobile. They see their world through the touch and feel method. They connect actions with signs. For example, crying gets them attention and food. So make them understand the world around them a little better. Since they are still grappling with the newness, do give your baby enough time to understand and respond.

"Look! What's this?"

Babies love exploring through touch and feel. Use this opportunity to put to use various types of clothes or toys to make him/her understand. It might be a furry little soft toy puppy or simply a velvet kerchief. Let your newborn play with it and feel it. That does not mean you should leave him/her with a toy and go about your business. Instead, talk to your baby and tell him/her in soft and playful tones what it is that he/she is seeing and feeling. Words even at that age have the ability to make a connection in the baby's mind.

"Come on DJ, play my favorite song"

Music has the amazing power to soothe a cranky baby instantly. Make the bath time more interesting by putting on a song that he responds to positively. That does not mean you can put on your favorite heavy metal band or wiggle to Shakira or Beyonce. Neither should you opt for soft, soothing music, as that will only lull him/her into sleep.

Instead put on a nursery rhyme-sing along, make actions, laugh, get him/her involved, and help him/her move his arms and legs to the beats.

"Wow! Did you see that?"

Infants do not have fully developed eyesight. They can only see things clearly when they are up close and personal. Yet, they are fascinated by all colors and shapes and sizes. Use this fascination to introduce your child to the world around him/her while he/she is busy getting sponged. Show him/her the colorful squeaky rubber ducky or the soft bath loofah, a spoon or a spatula, or fruits and vegetables -anything is a great play thing and an interesting way to learn.

Choose activities that are age appropriate and pretty soon both you and your baby will eagerly look forward to bath times.
