It's not so uncommon for a famous musician to try his or her hand at acting. There's a long standing precedent for the so-called double threat (musician-actor) that has spanned the genres and decades from Elvis Presley to Barbra Streisand to Eminem. The most cinematic musicians can make the transition from the radio to big screen seamlessly and eventually their careers are enhanced by the increased positive attention of having both a music audience and a film audience. Chris Isaak is a successful musician who has made a decent IMDB resume for himself with humble roles in major motion pictures and starring roles in smaller sitcoms and other television spots. How awesome is Chris Isaak when it comes to being a sly double threat? Let us count the ways:

5. Little Buddha
One of Chris Issak's first film credits as an actor came in the 1993 movie Little Buddha, a film in which he had a major role as Dean Conrad, the father of a young boy who is believed to be the incarnation of a deceased Buddhist monk. The film also starred Keanu Reaves as Siddhartha and Bridget Fonda as Dean Conrad's wife, Lisa. The film received mild yet favorable reviews, but Chris Issak earned the dubious distinction of being nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst New Star. He didn't end up winning.

4. That Thing You Do!
In 1996 Chris Isaak acted alongside such notable Hollywood actors as Tom Hanks, Liv Tyler, Charlize Theron, Giovanni Ribisi and Steve Zahn in the Tom Hanks-written and directed film That Thing You Do!, which turned out to be one of the biggest comedy hits of the year. Although Isaak didn't get a chance to show off much of his musical talent in a film about a rock band, he nonetheless got a nice cameo role as the character Uncle Bob.

3. "The Chris Isaak Show"
So impressed with Isaak and his budding acting career were the studio heads at Showtime that they OK'd a regularly-running sitcom called "The Chris Isaak Show." Chris played a fictionalized version of himself and the supporting cast was made up of either minor actors or members of his actual band. Numerous guest stars appeared in the show's 47 episodes between 2001 and 2004. It fared much better than other self-titled shows like The Tony Danza Show, but it was no Seinfeld or Mary Tyler Moore Show.

2. "Friends"
Chris Isaak was on a little television sitcom called "Friends." Ever heard of it? Isaak plays the role of Rob Donnen, a singer and guitarist who invites the character Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) to sing to children. Later Rob is repulsed by her graphic lyrics and comedy ensues. Isaak appears in only one episode, which happened to be one of the most important "Friends" episodes ever, the one that appeared right after the 1996 Super Bowl. This was during "Friends'" second season, when their prime time sitcom ranking jumped from eight to three.

1. The Silence of the Lambs
Far and away the best film credit to Chris Isaak's name is The Silence of the Lambs, the psychological thriller starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. While Chris is only in the film for a brief period, playing the role of "SWAT commander," it turned out to be a rather successful film to say the least. The Silence of the Lambs went on to win five Academy Awards in 1991, the top five Academy Awards in fact (Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay). It grossed over $270 million worldwide, and is considered to be one of the 100 greatest movies of all time, according to the American Film Institute.
