A lot of women are interested in changing the size of their breasts. Traditional breast reduction surgery leaves big visible scars and is also extremely painful. Cosmetic surgeons have look for ways to reduce breast size with minimal scarring and less pain. Liposuction through the use of micro cannulas is one alternative that leaves almost no trace.

Surgery of the breasts has always been a tricky business. The soft tissues of the breast scar easily and the breast is also extremely sensitive.

Some women have overly large breasts that they wish to reduce in size. But the traditional way of having that done can be brutal.

In regular breast reduction surgery, the breast is sliced open and some of the fat is scraped out along with portions of mammary and glandular tissue. This is extremely painful and recovery can be an excruciatingly slow process. The breasts may be damaged by this surgery so that breast feeding will never again be possible and some women lose sensation of the nipple.

For many women, though, these unfortunate side effects are considered to be worthwhile because of the resulting smaller breast size. But there are other ways to make breasts smaller, and liposuction is one alternative.

Because of the highly sensitive nature of the breast, great care is taken in breast liposuction to minimize both pain and scarring. This can be achieved through the use of tiny micro cannulas.

The cannula is the tube that is inserted into small incisions during liposuction. It is used to break fat cells and then suck them out. Using a micro cannula, surgeons can very carefully and gently remove only the fat while leaving the other structures of the breast fully intact and unharmed.

This is significant because it means the breast is left completely functional as it was before. This means that women who have had breast liposuction should have no trouble breast feeding because the mammary tissue is unaffected by the surgery. The breast is made smaller, but some of the fat is left, and the breast maintains the basic shape it had before the surgery.

Because the incisions are so tiny, they leave almost no scarring at all. In lighter skinned women, the marked are almost invisible. In darker skinned women, tiny dots will be visible for a few weeks or months after surgery, although they are not likely to be noticeable.

Liposuction of the breasts is not the same as getting implants; it doesn't sculpt the breast into a different shape. What is does do is make the breast lighter so that it does not hang as heavily as it did before.
