Well, for most of us it is about self control. Of course there are people with medical conditions where this does not apply but that aside a little self control goes a long way. So the number one way to lose weight is to simply eat less. More particularly eat less of the bad stuff and substitute it with good wholesome food.
Most of us over eat and possibly indulge in too much alcohol. Just try cutting back a little. Do not hit the biscuit tin after dinner or giving in to a second helping of dessert. Cut out the beer when you get home. Do not be too drastic but try a little restraint and then maybe a little more.
Number two is to get some more exercise. Do not go crazy but get up half an hour earlier and go for a brisk walk. You might even decide to use the exercise machine you bought over two years ago and has only been used for about 20 minutes in all that time. Exercise is easy really, just physically do a few of the things that you are currently using a machine for. Get a push mower instead of a ride on. Do the washing up by hand instead of using the dishwasher. It is more sociable anyway.
Walk to the shops to pick up a paper instead of using the car. Vacuum the house yourself instead of getting a cleaner in. Turn the TV off and go for an evening walk or join a club, a gym or hobbies class. You get the idea. Substitute your more sedentary pursuits for more active ones.
The third easy way to lose weight is to worry and fret about it. No, scrap that, but how about setting realistic goals for yourself that you can easily achieve. Do not use huge unachievable steps but little incremental advances to your goal weight. Do not cut out everything at once but break down your goals into daily and weekly things to do.
For instance, how about replacing your snack chocolate for a nice healthy apple and going for a 15 minute walk every morning before breakfast. You are the best person to decide on these things but discipline yourself to do it and carry it through. As you succeed at each goal you will gain more confidence and be more assured of success. That is why it is so important to use small achievable goals. Forget about trying for the impossible. |
